Balvatika 1

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS), New Delhi started Balvatika 1 in selective KVs, keeping in view of the NEP 2020. Balvatika 1 is a class taught before Class I. Earlier KV took admission of students from Class I onwards of the age from 6 years onwards as of 31st March.

 1. INTRODUCTION 

Due to the emergence of NEP 2020, every school education should impart education prior to three years from class 1.

Balvatika is considered as the three years of education prior to class 1. KVS has introduced Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2, and Bavatika 3.

 2. ADMISSION FOR BALVATIKA 1

Kendriya Vidyalaya starts admission in the month of March every year. The schedule of the admission is displayed on the KVS official website.

3. AGE GROUP FOR BALVATIKA 1

Age group for Balvatika 1 is considered as three years as of 31st March. Students should complete three years as of the given date. Generally, Kendriya Vidyalaya calculates the date as 31st March every year. For admission in BalVatika 1, every parent should submit a date of birth certificate duly issued by the competent authority of the given district. 

4. TEACHER RECRUITMENT FOR BALVATIKA 1.

Kendriya Vidyalaya follows two teachers' concepts in Balvatika. Every Balvatika should have two separate teachers each for Balvatika 1, 2, and 3. Hence, in total six teachers are hired for Balvatika. 

Till now, KVs has not recruited regular teachers for Bal Vatika. Every Kendriya Vidyalayas has issued a circular to hire Balvatika teachers. This recruitment process for balvatika teachers starts in the month of March – April every year. 5. REMUNERATION OR SALARY FOR BALVATIKA 1 -

As per the recent circular released by the KVS, teachers will be hired on a purely contractual basis for the consequent academic year on an ad hoc basis.

For Balvatika 1 every KV needs to hire two teachers ECCE trained. Here, ECCE means early childhood care and education, this is a two-year program launched by The Ministry of Education (MoE) government of India.

The remuneration will be equivalent to the contractual primary teachers. Now, different remuneration is being paid by the principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya. For normal stations, it is Rs. 21,250 per month and for hard stations, it is Rs.26,250 per month. Earlier Kendriya Vidyalayas used to pay remuneration on the basis of periods taken by the teachers in a day but now a consolidated pay is being paid by the schools in every first week of the month.

6. TEACHER VACANCY FOR BALVATIKA 1

As discussed in this article, in a single school for Balvatika 1 there will be two teachers for a single section. Therefore, two teacher vacancies will arise in Balvatika 1 in a particular KV. At present, all these posts are being filled up by the contractual engagement of the teachers. Further after completion of this pilot project, KVS will most probably release a notification for filling up these vacant posts on a permanent basis. 

There are 1250 Kendriya Vidyalaya in country. At present only 450 Kendriya Vidyalayas are being identified for the implementation of balvatika. This has been implemented in phase manner and this is phase II, in which 450 Kendra Vidyalayas or being identified out of 1250 Kendriya Vidyalayas. Therefore it has been presumed that in the coming years, a huge vacancy will be created for the Balvatika teachers and they will be paid salary equivalent to the primary teachers. 

At present, the primary teachers are being paid with level six of 7CPC. In As 6CPC equivalent grade pay will be Rs.4200 and the pay band will be Rs.9300, excluding allowances like HRA, DA, TA, etc.

7. CURRICULUM FOR BALVATIKA 1 / SYLLABUS FOR BALVATIKA 1

For Balvatika 1 syllabus has been designed, keeping in view of NEP 2020. The curriculum is focused on the activities. Activity-based learning is prescribed by the think tank of NEP 2020. Apart from activity-based learning, toy pedagogy or toy based learning is also an integral part of the curriculum.

Holistic development of the kids is also a focal point of NEP 2020. Different domains are also identified for the children which need to be developed during the whole year. These identified domains are listed below:

8. FAQ FOR BALVATIKA 1 :

i) What is Balvatika 1?

- Balvatika 1 is a class prior to Balvatika 2. As per NEP 2020, every government-funded school should start teaching from the age of 3 years. In private schools, Nursery is equivalent to Balvatika 1.  

ii) What is the age for admission to Balvatika 1?

- The minimum age for admission in Balvatika 1 is 3 years and the maximum age is 4 years as of 31st March.

iii) What is the process for admission to Balvatika 1?

- In the month of March every year Kendriya Vidyalayas publishes a notification

iv) What is the salary for a Balvatika 1 teacher?

Balvatika 1 teacher salary is equivalent to the Primary teacher's (Ad hoc) salary i.e. Rs. 21,250/- (Rupees Twenty-one thousand two hundred fifty only) for the normal stations and for the hard stations it is Rs.26,250/- (Rupees Twenty-Six thousand two hundred fifty only)

- Balvatika 1 syllabus has been provided by the NCERT, New Delhi to the respective Kendriya Vidyalayas,. They have also shared the resource materials with the KVs for the smooth conduct of classes of Balvatika. Further, they have also requested to share the handholding support from the KV teachers so that necessary modifications can be incorporated for making Balvatika classes more joyful, motivating, and toy-based learning.
