In view of the NEP-2020 Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has decided to introduce Balvatika in KVs as a pilot project. In this regard, various guidelines have been issued by the competent authority of KVS. It was started in 2022-23. At first 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas were selected as the pilot project.
Balvatika scheme has now become worldwide successful for Kendriya Vidyalayas. Now, this year 2023-24 they have identified 450 KVs for the fresh introduction of Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2, and Balvatika 3 for the different age group children.
b. What is the age group for admission in Balvatika in KV?
There are various Balvatika age groups that have been identified. Fresh admission in Balvatika classes will be done as per the priority and reservation given in the Admission Guidelines 2022-23 as per the following age groups:
Balvatika I - Attended 3 years but not completed 4 years. [Balvatika 1 age group]
Balvatika II - Attended 4 years but not completed 5 years. [Balvatika 2 age group]
Balvatika III - Attended 5 years but not completed 6 years. [Balvatika 3 age group]
Age (as on 31st March every year)
c. Who is eligible for Balvatika?
Students of the following age groups are eligible for admission to Balvatika.
Balvatika age group Classes
3 to 4 Balvatika 1
4 to 5 Balvatika 2
5 to 6 Balvatika 3
For admission, reservations like RTE-2009 shall be applicable. But SGC (Single Girl Child) category is not applicable for Balvatika 1,2,3.
d. What is Balvatika 1?
Initially, the total intake for Balvatika 1 will 40(Forty) seats for any Kendriya Vidyalaya. From 3 to 4 years, students are eligible for Balvatika 1. The duration of school timing for Balvatika 1 will be 3 hrs., and the timing will be decided by the local authority as per feasibility.
e. What is Balvatika 2?
Initially, the total intake for Balvatika 2 will be 40 (Forty) seats for any Kendriya Vidyalaya. From 4 to 5 years, students are eligible for Balvatika 2. The duration of school timing for Balvatika 2 will be 3 hrs., and the timing will be decided by the local authority as per feasibility.
f. What is Balvatika 3 ?
Initially, the total intake for Balvatika 3 will be 40 (Forty) seats for any Kendriya Vidyalaya. From 5 to 6 years, students are eligible for Balvatika 3. The duration of school timing for Balvatika 3 will be 3 hrs., and the timing will be decided by the local authority as per feasibility.
g. What is the daily timing for Balvatika?
So far as daily timing for the classes is concerned it has been decided to initially to start with 3 hrs for five days in a week. For the exact time you are instructed to contact to the concerned Kendriya Vidyalayas.
f. What will be the teaching hour for Balvatika 3?
As discussed in the above article the timings for all the Balvatika 1, Balvatika 2 and Balvatika 3 will be 3 hrs. for all. The exact timing will be decided by the local school.

4. Recruitment of teachers in Balvatika
As per the recent circular released by the KVS, teachers will be hired on a contractual basis for the consequent academic year (for one year initially).
Every school needs to hire 02(Two) teachers ECCE(Early Childhood Care and Education) trained and their remuneration will be equivalent to Primary Teacher (Contractual)
Remuneration: Rs.21250/- (For Normal Station)
Rs. 26250/- (For Hard Station)
*Note- Remuneration will be similar to that of Primary Teachers
Education qualification required for Balvatika Teacher :
(i) Senior Secondary class (Class XII or it's equivalent) from a recognized board with at least 50% marks
&
(ii) Diploma in Nursery Teacher Education/Pre-School Education/Early Childhood Education Programme (D.E.C.Ed) of duration of not less than two years or B.Ed(Nursery) from NCTE-recognized Institution.
5. Recruitment of Caregivers(or helpers) in Balvatika
Apart from Balvatika Teachers there shall a Caregivers(or helpers) needed to deploy by the principal of each KVs for looking after the toddlers.
Remuneration: Salary for helpers
shall be as per the rates applicable for semiskilled
persons of the particular State.
Education qualification required for Caregivers(or helpers) :
Secondary class
(Class X or it's equivalent) from a recognized board, minimum 18 years of age, and
should have induction training in pre-school Education. Or, Any person
possessing skill training / adequate training as prescribed by NIPCCD,
NSDC, or any other institution recognized by the. Central
Government/ appropriate Government/ Recognized University /Board.
6. Curriculum for Balvatika:
Curriculum and resources prescribed by NCERT would be used for Balvatika. We can also say that these materials may be formulated in the syllabus of Balvatiaka 3.
